Altus A10 shifters ?

Ok, I have a set of Altus A10 shifters I am trying to fit to a mates bike and there recable, but I have a problem, I have not used these kind of shifters before, the underbar rapid fire type with two levers.

They work as far as I can ascertain, the ratchet mechanisms advance and are released with the actioning the levers, but fitting cables to them, I can't get the buggers to work.

You see, I am a thumby man, never used underbar shifters before, so am pretty clueless how to cable and set them up.

Now cabling, I took it as the position where the hole goes clear through the shifter to poke the wire in, yeah, that done, connect up at the other end and action the shifter to see if it works, and it doesn't, so what am I doing wrong with these things, how do I recable them, is there a special way different to thumbies ?

Nope no different to thumbies in principle (with the addition of ratcheting)

They pull that cable in when you crank the big lever (which ratchets back to rest, leaving the actual cable where it is)

Then the ratchet is let back again, one notach at a time by the little lever

Just make sure you have hit the little lever as many times as poss while pulling on the cable

Might be you've fitted it with the ratchet mechanism fully 'taken up'

clean out the decades old grease with Finnigans or similar too, then they will work better
