Alivio 8 Speed Shifters as a replacement for old school XT ?

After nearly 20 years service on my cherished but lead a hard life 'dale, the XT M739 RHD shifter let me down. As I'm training for some big rides in the summer, I need her fixed, and cheaper is better.

Does anyone have any experience with the Alivio M410 shifters, as it seems I can source one of these ?
Do they work with an 8 speed XT setup, do they work well ?

I may have to drop the visual window off them, as I run Maguras and there's not much space.

Long term I'll probably hunt down an XT one, but I need the bike back

Theres loads of shimano 8spd shifters and they will all work perfectly well with your XT rear mech.

The front mech is different though as cable pull/ reach varies between models and swing types so it may not shift too well.

Thanks chap, £17 alivio shifter off ebay will keep me off the road!
