I'm presuming black tubes are carbon and the joints alloy?

Anyone had one?

Yes that's correct

Probably the other way round. Alan and Duralinox frames were branded for all sorts of other companies, Guerciotti being just one.

Great frames, screwed and glued.
Fangio was another branded Alan frame set.

Nice frames, but check the headtube as they’re prone to cracking and aren’t realistically repairable.

As I understand, it is due to incorrect headset size fitment.

Seems a common occurrence though. Quite a few I’ve considered over the years have had (undisclosed) cracks beginning

Until you do a quantative survey, it's conjecture. My experience differs.

It’s not conjecture, it’s matter-of-fact personal experience.
How common it is might be subject to relative interpretation, but it’s frequent enough to beware of. The cracks are easily missed, and not always declared by sellers having been dismissed as insignificant.
A cracked Alan is potentially dangerous, practically impossible to repair and pretty much worthless.
