Is it possible to do threads for ahead fork?

Is it same diameter?

I remember doing this yeas ago..but want to be sure before starting...
fork is 1 1/8

I think it's the same diameter, I've done the opposite and mounted an a-head stem on a threaded steerer.

On the latter threre were many comments made on this forum re stresses on the steerer it was not desgned for. So do assure there's enough flesh in the steerer for maintaining strength with the reduction of material after cutting thread.

steel ahead steerers usually are thinner walled than their threaded counterparts. outer diameter is the same (28.6mm) but the inner might be larger. ID of the threaded steerer is 1" (25.4mm). if your fork has the same ID it should be possible. not sure if it is wise to do it though. ahead steerer might be a milder steel and thus threads may weaken them. it's such a safety critical part that i would not risk it. but i am sure there are people who have done it and had no issues.
