Abandoned Barracuda

I went out for a ride in to town last night for a few beers . When we locked out bikes up to the rack we noticed a very unloved bare aluminium frame Barracuda MTB locked up with no seat , kicked in back wheels . It must have been there some time as it’s on Google earth street view ( red forks in the middle ) It definitely isn’t a rare amazing find but I fancy rescuing it and giving it a new life but not sure on how to claim it . I could just go and cut the lock but that’s basically theft .

You can't claim it. It's someone's. Unless you can find the owner it's there till they or the council decide otherwise (sat on council pavement, they have an obligation to keep an open through fair with the right to remove blockages).

Yep, you need to contact the council, think there is a time limit though im sure they are not allowed to just sell it straight off regardless.

Not sure where you live but the Police have used old bikes locked up in hotspots to observe, so maybe self rescue is not the best action

Just feel like giving it a new life as it will only end up on the scrap heap otherwise
