aargh damn klein cable guides came out!! How do i get back?

Klein cable guides

Take out the cable outer stop ends and put slight bend in a length of decent inner wire so it has a bend in the end (helps if you super glue the end to stop from fraying) now tilt the frame so the direction of threading is down, then its a case of threading the cable down until you find the ext hole, then use the cable to thread the new inner liner up and into the frame over the cable. If the inners are still in then just thread some new outer up them. Is it Gear or brake thats gone Awol?

its gear inner that fell out - the rst are nicely cabled up!!!

Cable Ends

Always do this, but need a big blob to pass some XC/DH race Scrutineers then won't pull back through, but I always just use a bit right up the cable and it stops wear and fray, just don't stand over it while it cures as it gives off a nasty gas as it dries that burns your nasal tissues!!(found that out by experience!)

there are no cable stops that can be taken out on the old frames. you'll have to route a cable through the frame as described above and then push the liner over it back into the frame. it helps to hold a magnet close to the cable exit so the cable finds it's way out.

that said, the liners are not supposed to stay in the frame. they are just meant as help to route the inner cables through the frame and then should be pulled out. it's enough to have a short piece of liner over the cable where they exit the frame so they dont cut into the frame. 1" inside the frame and 1" outside. to be able to pull the liners out of the frame after the inner cable is routed through them you first need to cut off the flared end before you insert the inner cable - if it is not broken off anyways.

if you dont experience slow down shift problems you can leave the liners in but usually they cause drag and hinder proper down shifting, especially on 8 and 9speed setups.

It helps to have a strong magnet. I've used the magnets from an old disk drive. It's best if you put the magnet in a thin cloth to ensure you don't scratch the frame.

when i re did all the cables on mine, it was really easy, just thread the cable in and use a thin paper clip bent in to a hook to fish it out of the exit hole, then just thread the sleeve over it all the way untill it stops. it takes a bit of patience and 5 mins or so for each cable. it also helps if you just have the stripped frame so you can move it around easier.
