Just a quickie, Im fully aware of the Post a price on your sale ad rule, however Im wondering how does that stand with items that the owner doesnt have an idea of price for (and cannot easly find an idea of price due to rarity)

I fully agree with the rule in order to do away with everything turning into an auction via PM's

Ive just read a thread regarding an old GT where the seller, once they realised there was a bit of interest, asked people to make offers openly by posting on the thread. Instead of covertly PM'ing offers.

So without using ebay, so an item can be guaranteed to go to a forum user and avoid ebays tax, how can one sell a rare item on these forums for the best price as set by the community members?

For example, would it be ok to pick a overly large sale price out of thin air and ask for offers to be posted below?

ask in retro chat first what its worth?

Well,, just did that for a few of my bits..seems it wasn't appreciated.

Sorry mods, but it doesn't make sense IMHO.

Ok. There is a tricky balance to be had here. Guidance to follow...

I'm not too sure what the problem with asking for 'best offers' is on this site to be honest.

Why as a community do we find the 'OIRO' option so offensive?

Think this one has been discussed to death previously on this thread here > http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=107327 and elsewhere

The main reason for asking for a price was as follows (to quote my good self)

We'd like to see people include a price with all adverts. Can only assume the proliferation of 'offers by PM' is an attempt to get top dollar. Remember this is a site run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts - if you want to maximise your profit pull your finger out and list it on www.ebay.co.uk
