I can definitely say that this retro bike malarky is getting me fitter.

kept up with 2 roadies last night for 6 miles (actually beat one) into a head wind on my weighty '04 avalanche running semi slicks

:smug:

Good work :D

I tend to find roadies underestimate/overlook some of us folk who ride in slacks and old bikes....rinsed quite a few :D

Many people also overlook the fact that a roadie could be in the last 5miles of a 70mile+ training ride when you overtake him on the way to the pub... :-D

Last year I was passing the rolls Royce works at ansty......a chap on a slick shod mtb came out the gates, sat in behind me up the next hill, overtook me at the crest without saying anything and then pulled into a housing estate a mile later....... I didn't have chance to say that I had spent 7 hours in the saddle on a 115 mile circle to the Cotswolds...... I barely made it home, but would love a rematch when fresh!..... :D

When I got my first proper MTB back in the early 90's, my riding partner had an Aluminium O. If a roadie ever passed us he used to take it as a personal affront and chase and overtake them, just to make a point!

I tried it for a while when I had my P7, with occasional success, but that was about 15 years ago and I daren't even try now. Having said that, I did take the road bike out for a quick spin last night and had forgotten just how quick (and uncomfortable!) it is by comparison to my favourite toys.
