Hi All,

A few questions that im not sure about, as I want to rebuild a Zaskar in original parts as near as possible so I can make a good job of it. :P

1) What is the difference between XTR M950 and 951. Also M952 looks similar as well, I know they are newer the number gets higher, so is M950 1996? Whats the differnces looks wise and finish ?
Will any M950+m951 be compatible and would it be period to the 1996 Zaskar and look OK ?

2) Also whats the difference between Zaskars and Zaskar LE's is it just the parts that went on them from new ? Is a LE complete with Judy SL's and XTR ??

3) If I fit these parts can I be so bold as to put LE decals on my frame, can someone put a link to the correct decals I need as the ones on it are not correct.

Any advice will be gratefully received. Cheers jason.

Shifters and Derailleurs:
rd-m950 and rd-m952 are bottom normal (not rapid rise). rd-m951 and rd-m953 are rapid rise.

Cranks:

Brakes:
The M950 are the original parallel push XTR design that developed free play in the upper pivot linkage. Shimano subsequently sold a rebuild kit that comprised of a set of shims.

The M951 is a virtually identical design, except that there is a coil spring on the upper pivot, which prevents the linkage from rattling if the link developed free play.

I've asked the same question regarding the Zaskar/Zaskar LE frame and it appears that there is no difference between the frames. The difference between the 'normal' Zaskar and the LE seems to be the kit that they were built with (Zaskar = XT, Zaskar LE = XTR), unless you have a later model in which case the Zaskar LE had different rear dropouts.

If your Zaskar frame is pre-97 (I think), then it will be the same as a Zaskar LE.

Someone please feel free to put me right if I'm wrong!

Yeah I'd like to know that as well. :?

Yep, exactly the same frame.

It was the spec that was the difference between the standard Zaskar and the 'LE'. The usual frame only option in '96 was the Zaskar LE, but plenty of frames were sold badged up as 'just' a Zaskar.

Peronally, unless it's a full XTR period correct build then it's a Zaskar to me.

Slowly but surely tring to spec it back to original a Zaskar LE, a few more parts are in the post.

I always thought LE stood for Light Edition and was slightly lighter. I'm sure someone would know for sure.

I was under the impression that;
M950 = 8spd rapid fire
M951 = 8spd rapid rise
M952 = 9spd rapid fire
M953 = 9spd rapid rise

Probably wrong tho, I usually am about these sorts of things
