96 Explosif on Trademe NZ

First Post - Anybody got any idea about the size of this Explosif.

Looks like a 18" to me but i can't really tell from the measurements the seller (a guy in a pawn shop) has posted and the photo is at the wrong angle. I'm hoping an expert can cast an eye over it?

I went and had a look mate. It's from 1996 and looked like an 18 inch (possibly a 17 inch at a push).

To be honest it looks wrong as the rear triangle has been recently resprayed gloss black (to hide something maybe?). Also small dent in top tube near Mountain Shock wording.

Parts - XTR front mech (old - mid-90's), Xt rear mech (recent-ish - 2005?), Magura brakes worked ok, Cranks were Curve originals, Judy SL's felt good and saddle was recent specialized one (I think).

Personally I think you are taking a risk at much more than $200.... but overall it's still a nice bike with cool bits.

Thanks for the post and warning. Pretty keen to get another 96, had one previously and really loved that bike - it got stolen so i got a 98. that got nicked too so currently riding an 05. not too many old explosifs around in these parts eh.

No worries. Maybe ask them for some more photo's, especially of the rear triangle. Just not sure why you'd spray the whole rear triangle black unless something had happened?

Had a look at the bike with Mahoney and can send you some more photos i took while there if you like. PM me your email address if you'd like to see them.

We were pretty put off by the repeat when we saw it. The spray paint job has also left residue spray on one side of the frame and even on the pump which they clearly couldn't be bothered taking off the bike when they sprayed it. Very odd. Some of the components appeared to be in pretty good nick but if you are wanting to buy it for the frame I'm not convinced about it...

I'm pretty sure it's a stolen bike. You never know tho, you might think its worth a punt.

Yes it's an 18.

I had that on my watch list too, it was a turners auction, decided not to bid - good thing too as I just brought a Rocky Mountain Equipe on TM this morning, now just need to work out how i'm going to get it from Auckland to Invercargill - shhhh the mrs doesnt know I brought it

Haha, I had the Rocky Mountain on my watch list too. Good luck with the missus. I've got my eye on a Marin, Bear Valley in Welly. Think he wants too much tho.
