'94 Diamond Back Axis

This is Ed’s (orange71) old Diamond back Axis frame he packed up and shipped to me down here quite a while back now. My first bike was a ’92 Diamond Back Response, so this was a bit of a nostalgia purchase that’s taken me forever to build up.

I wanted to get the frame powder coated. Unfortunately I filled in a very small dent with silver solder only to discover that powder coating would melt it right out so off to get it painted (at twice the price) - I should have used plasti-bond!

The frame still isn’t where I want it as I’m thinking of doing a splatter over the white and decals are still coming (I’ve just mocked them up in Photoshop in the picture below)

It’s by no means a period correct build – it’s more a compromise between of what I had available and my favorite bits of the ‘era’.

looks good, i like it. a splatter would be cool, however if it were me..i would then also put those 1991 type era decals on it that were on thos splatter bikes..the ones with the big 'diamond back' on the downtube.

when i was a kid i really really wanted one of those neon green or neon orange splatter axis or apex bikes. i had a 91 black sorrento at the time...

The paint on this '92 apex, but with the colours in reverse - green squigles/stripes on white - is what I'd like to try.

No decals have been printed yet, but artwork has been created - still at the easy to change stage!
