'91 Kona Hot frame and parts 19 inch

I've decided to part with the '91 Kona Hot...It's already had a stay of execution once but I'm too busy using the other bikes and It pains me to see it gathering dust

This frame is a rare very early TET version (prestige concept) stamped 1990 but with 1991 paint and graphics - probably one of the first Hots made. I bought it in a tatty state from it's original owner so it was repainted by Argos and had new decals added, the job is the usual good quality bar a slight ripple behind the drive side seatstay (only noticed recently when cleaning, can't really see it). I also had another cable guide added on the top tube, some may see it as sacrilege but it does mean you can alter your choice of brakes if you prefer not to use cantis..! It's picked up a couple of marks from use, the worst being a paint scrape on the chainstay caused by a spider bolt snapping and the loose chainring rubbing the frame. I will include the original P2 fork, M900 headset, syncros stem and ti bottom bracket, all of which are in great nick. £300 posted is what I'm after. Sorry to say but no offers on this, if it doesn't sell this time I'll see it as an omen (again :roll: )

I probably can't afford it at the moment :? but just in case am I right in thinking that early Kona frames measure up smaller than later ones :?:

So this 19" would be more like a modern 18" :?:

A modern 19" Kona is too big so I'm hoping thats the case :?

Good point...should have mentioned that! This frame is stamped 18 on the b/b shell but is definitely 19" centre to top, compared with my '95 Hot which is 18" it feels bigger for sure! If anything it's a tad big for me No doubt Anthony will clarify this, in my experience later Konas size smaller if anything.

To be honest I'm not sure where the decals are from now! somwhere local to the paint shop sorted them.. I'll have to check. Saying that you're best to contact gil_m on here. It sounds like he's a busy man at the moment but he's had many a satisfied customer on this site, including me

thanks for the info. i think i will leave gil m alone on this one. he makes great cut vinyl, but the kona decals i have seen of his look off. that is a personal opinion though and i am super picky. the ones on your beautiful hot look great and accurate. good luck with your sale even though i hope you keep the bike 'cause it looks sweet.

I’ve never had an early Kona, but I believe that for 91 and 92 the size was the length of the seat tube itself, i.e., from the outside of the bb shell. So a size 18 would have a c-t seat tube length of about 18.75, making it easy to think that was a size 19. Evidence for this can be found in the number of people who sell size 16 bikes from that era as size 17, even though there was no size 17 in the range. I think Guybe, who has owned several early Konas, has also pointed this out.

But in any case the top tube length is a more important aspect of size. I believe the 91 frames were roughly the same length as 94-onwards ones, but perhaps the best answer to Steve’s question is to measure the top tube length, centre to centre, along the tube. That is 562mm for a size 18 from 1994 onwards, so that measurement for this bike should give him a fair idea of whether it would fit him, irrespective of what size Kona would call it.

All this is just out of interest, as it may be sold already for all I know.
