Looks to me like either a '93 or a '94. How he managed to get it for his 21st birthday on the 5th of September 1991 escapes me though. Another case of http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=122870 maybe?

That's the Sapphire blue color "special paint" from 1993. The pic in the 1993 catalogue shows the bike darker than seeing it live.
