91 Clockwork - What's it worth?

Retro Newbie
Hi,

I rebuilt my 91/92 clockwork last year and have been using it quite a bit recently on the trails on the way to work. It's all original in the orange and white fade paint and even has the original seat. It is equipped with Suntour XC Pro Microdrive with Mavic rims.

I ordered the bike with my first couple of months wages when I got my first proper job toward the end of 91. It cost about £800 and took 9 weeks to deliver because Orange had no 21" frames in stock and had to build it as a special for me. It's the only one of my old bikes that I have kept.

The chainset, chain and rear cassette have been replaced with brand new but early 90's Suntour APII Power Flow Microdrive that I picked up in the States, but I have kept the original parts. I am also using SPD pedals but kept the originals and rat traps that came fitted. I bought a used set of XC Pro wheels from a 92 clockwork off a guy in Germany and had the hubs re-rimmed (is that a word?) with new 07 Mavic rims and use these wheels for off road. The original rims and hubs have slick tyres now and the only part of the bike that I have thrown away are the Specialized ground Control tyres that came with the bike. I always thought the tyres were the only bit that let the bike down.

The bike is in very good condition considering it's age and the paint work still looks great albeit with quite a few scratches and chips. I always enjoyed the steel feel of the frame and front forks and it still rides great today. I'm not planning to sell the bike but just wondered what it might be worth. It might convince me to take more care when I'm blasting over the rough stuff but I doubt it.

Neil.
