I have an 8 speed athena rear mech, and some 9/10 campag speed jockey wheels, with the correct 9/10 speed bolts for them. But the bolts are smaller than the original 8 speed bolts (at least, the heads are smaller and they don't sit quite as well in the side plates).
I also have some longer shimano jockey wheel bolts, which seem to fit better and are the same screw thread.
But they need spacing with a washer on each side of the jockey wheel, between it and the plates, so that everything can be tightened up OK.
Seems to work perfectly fine (I haven't fitted a chain yet though)
Am I likely to run into problems using a mech with the side plates "widened" in this way? There's not enough extra space for the chain to drop off the jockey and get stuck.
Anyone know the threading on shimano and campag jockey wheel bolts? They appear to be the same...
