I've just upgraded to 7 from 6 bought some XT rapidfire triggers off ebay and can still only get 6 gears to work - I think the bike is telling me to stay retro.

I remember going from 6 to 7 when i got some DX thumbies and STX SE hubs on M321 rims in about '94. I think those wheels dropped about 2lbs off that bike too
