Just re-read it and seen that the post is stuck. Really can't be arsed in that case. Shame.

I couldn't understand that. To me there's no such thing as a stuck post, but were these earlier ones steel? Steel stuck in steel I can believe, but aluminium no - stubborn maybe, but not stuck.

I've read lots of horror stories on here about stuck posts - aluminium in steel included. If it was a 'grail' bike then sure, I'd be prepared to do what it takes.
Anyway, the contact point of two different metals tends to generate a metallic reaction which can result in corrosion as far as I am aware?

I expect you're right, but surely aluminium is so resistant to rusting that the extent to which two pieces can become fused together by rust is much less than if its steel on steel. The worst I've ever had was when we had to destroy an XTR post to get it out of a steel frame, which was a bit of a blow, but we did get it out. But I admit it may be impossible in this case.

You might be best off taking it to a local welding shop and they may weld a big bar to the post for increased leverage - this i have done before. The posts a write-off, but least its out...

if you put 2 disimilar metals in contact with anything acidic you get an electrolytic reaction similar to a battery or an anodising effect so that the 2 parts actualy weld together.ps a pipe wrench and big biker from ford garages i know can shift anything.

aluminium creates aluminium oxide which is very corrosive if it gets onto an ally frame.my mate rode his scott team issue into the sea and destryed it.xt through out as well. twerp.

I think that's just a regular old Kalloy alloy post – can't ever remember seeing a steel post over the years that wasn't either black or chrome, now I can't be sure but it doesn't look all the shiny and it certainly isn't black.

If it's alloy it'll come out eventually – just needs a little gentle persuasion.

I'd go for this myself if it weren't for the fact that I can barely get in the garage, and I haven't even looked at building the Zaskar yet :roll:

Think this time the other half really would point my arse at the front door and kick.
