80's Legnano Racer

Retro Newbie
Hi, I've just done a deal on an 80's Legnano racer. Well I think it's 80's anyway. It seems to come with everything bar the wheels. The seller has the chainrings and campagnolo front and rear mechs. I haven't picked the bike up from the seller yet but from the pics it looks fairly good. There is a little rust but I might clean that and clearcote it for the time being.
Can anyone identify the model and give me any info on the bike?
Is it Falke tubing?
Is it possible to buy new decals if I wanted to restore it?

Well that didn't exactly set the world alight... I've done lots of googling and there seems to be very little info on the 70's & 80's Legnano's.
I think these frames were made by Bianchi.
I have a few questions.
If I'm buying wheels, will modern 700c wheels fit if I can get the brakes to reach?
I'm thinking new aluminium wheels in a silver colour would work well. Maybe tiagra hubs built on shiny silver rims with silver spokes.
I'm thinking I might try to clean up the rust spots initially and clearcote the areas affected. Will this be okay?

Also, I'm a big guy. Will this bike be strong enough for me. I think it's Falck tubing.

Unless you're a hulkesque-man-monster, it should be strong enough to bear your weight. :D

Sorry, no useful information to impart, except the pinstriping on your Legnano looks damn cool.

Re:

Thanks Don,
Yeah the paint and pinstriping looks cool so I'm thinking I might try to clean up the rust spots and preserve what I have.
I'll just have to stay in saddle climbing.

Yeah, I think that's what I would do - clean up, not respray. It's a lovely frame, well finished and unless it's going in a museum it'll do nicely as long as the rust is contained. That's what I'm doing with my old Ian May roadie... let their scars shine!

Falck mostly produced plain gauge seemed tubeset similar to Columbus Aelle. Seatpost diameter of 26.4 to 26.8mm would confirm this.

Looks late 70's from the transfers/stickers, very latest 1984.

Regards.

Thanks for the info so far. I picked up the bike yesterday and it's nearly complete. The seller turned up with the original wheels too. Wasn't expecting that. It has an old campagnolo groupset, rigida superchromix rims on weco hubs. The rims need a good clean and polish but the wheels may need to be replaced as the front wheel has 3 broken spokes. I'm tempted to strip down the two wheels and clean and polish them and get them fully rebuilt.
The 5 speed freewheel is fine and the hubs look fine.
The brakes are universal and I need new Galli brake hoods as the old ones have perished. Anyone know where to source these?
I'm also missing the small chainring and all the bolts but it comes with the original Legnano branded cranks.
I think I'm going to replace the seatpost and buy a brown Charge Spoon saddle and matching bar tape.

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me where i can get replacement Galli brake hoods. The current ones are perished. They are black rubber with GG80 stamped on the levers.
Also, the 52t chainring and chainring bolts/spacers are missing. Will any chainring with the correct BCD work? Will I need spacers to put between the rings?

Two other items I need are a set of retro pedals and a seatpost. Is it possible to get an adapter to use a modern saddle on the of tube seatpost?
