80's Kuwahara Shasta (now with larger pictures)

My neighbour had this with a free sign on his driveway yesterday and I couldn't help myself. He thinks he bought it in 87. Its a Kuwahara Shasta. 18 inch sloping top tube design with Isiwata tubing throughout. Six speed Mountain LX front and rear mech's and crank with a lovely biopace chainring with little wear. Chainstay mounted U-brake with shark fin and front canti's. Didn't look too closely at the hubs and rims. Araya rims I think and I think I saw exage on the hubs. Probably too small for me, but it rides nice. I forgot what that old school gearing was like - makes one wonder why they even put a big ring on those old 6 speed bikes - I had trouble pushing them even with those relatively skinny multi purpose tires. It's been stored outside under a tarp as long as I've lived next door. I don't really need this and its not my size so I've offered it to a buddy as a towpath rider.

If he doesn't take it I'm likely harvesting the components and seeing if I can sell the frame. I'm a bit torn though. It rides nice and I used a bit of polishing compound on the top tube and the colour came right back.

So here are a few cruddy iphone photos.

Re:

Ok, words in - buddy doesn't want the bike. Anyone else interested before I split it? Nice Japanese hand built bike here. Going once. Going twice.....
