80's Cruiser

Bought basically because ive always wanted a newsboy (but cannot, nor probably ever will be able to afford one!) this is a mid 80's Fujiyama Cruiser with coaster brake and the original white wall ballon tyres (a bit knackered, but Im not planning on ragging it or riding it too much). When I bought it it had been wrapped with plastic tape top to bottom, which the original owner hadnt removed - I took a chance, and because im fatally optimistic i thought that at best the paintwork would be pristine and it would have some crazy 80's decals (fat chance!). It didnt, it wasnt, the decals are cool though, if a bit faded, and whilst the paint is faded, i like the patina. One pretty cool thing i did find was the Honolulu Bike License (sadly expired in 1987) sticker on the seat tube, so Im guessing that it must have spent a bit of time there.

I have changed the seatpost so i can fit the retro neon pink turbo (see, a flite would look daft on this!) and matched it up with some ODI grips, well, nearly matched, but after its been used a bit and i get some oil on them theyll match better i reckon. Ive also stuck a nice old Lucas bell on to get the peds out of my way (the coaster brake is pretty, er, vague, to say the least), found a nice old rear light for getting home from Hyde Park barbecues after dark (I cant see what battery might work in it unfortunately though) and obviously i needed some pedals, so went for some triple traps for extra grip/shin mashing.

Future plans revolve around getting a massive flanged front hub, changing the chain for a nice chrome one, might get a nice chromed rack for the rear too, and maybe trying to make the coaster brake work.

Im struggling to find any info on these bikes, ive no idea what year it is, or how it ended up in

It didnt cost me much, the brake doesnt work very well, the tyres are knackered, its rusty in places and it weighs a ton - but I like it :)

100% retro-porn! IWANTONEOFTHOSE... Definitely have to keep posting pics etc when you build the monster up! theboy done good ;)

Ha ha ha...that IS very cool mate.....I like

Would look sweet with some chrome parts like you say...I'd keep the pink stuff on it too, gives it that little bit of individuality :)

Loose the pink stuff and keep the patina!!

The coaster brake should be easy enough, just strip it down, clean up and regrease where necessary.........mind you it's been 25+ years since I did one

I have promised myself a cruiser for years.

That bike is the pooches plums! :D

Cheers,Al

OK, ive got a couple more 'accessories' lined up to go on her, a 70's alloy pressed rack with spring (need to fabricate an extension for it fit level though), a couple of choices of analogue speedo, and also a couple of choices of rear view mirror - but I dont want to go over the top, will the mirror be overkill?

Also, I have some 'spare' black Cooks RSR's, with a custom cut azonic DH 37 tooth sprocket lined up for it, as its a standard BMX BB at the minute can I fit those wondercups (i think thats what they are called) in order to run the MTB BB and fit the cranks?
