8/9 speed cassettes and mech's ??

hey guys,
i have pair of wheels coming and the rear has an 8 speed casstte on it, will my current 9 speed mech and shifter work with that or do i have to change those or swap the cassettes over ?

if i need to swap cassettes is this something i need a special tool to do or as i dont intend doing this too often, just take the wheels to the lbs and let them do it ???

9 speed mechs will work with anything. 8 and 9 speed hubs are identical. Swapping the cassette is a 5 minute job, pop into your LBS...

needs an 9 speed cassette and chain for your shifter to work (mech will work with most speeds). the tools cost about £10 total (chainwhip and lockring tool)

yep what he said but i prefer the lockring tool with the pin for going on axle

Fair enough.
Mine has that pin as well, also bought one with a handle as easier than messing around with spanners.
Worth buying basic tools to do the job, there's always a next time.
