650b rims - FOUND

Re: 650b rims

Hi Andy,

Pretty rare, but...at least you've not got the 40 hole Highpath hubs. I have nightmares about damaging my rims.

The MAVIC rims (and Weinmann, Rigida etc) do turn up on LeBoncoin and TrocVelo occasionally, but have you looked into modern/retro rims?

Velo Orange Diagonale can be bought for around £45 each. At 25mm, they're a bit wider than the Mavic ones, and have a slightly arched profile:

A better match would be the Pacenti PL23, pricier at around £65 each plus shipping from the states, but they do have a good square profile, 23mm wide and a modern welded seam:

All the best,

Re: 650b rims

The polished finish and curved shape give the VO Diagonale 650b Rims a look that is very similar to the Super Champion rims originally used on the Clelands.

Also I have tracked down some unused Mavic Module 3 - 36 hole rims. Price should be around £50 each. Will also ask about the 40 hole version.

Graham.

Here are some more for the record:

Grand Bois still make the Scarabee (Polished Alu, single wall, stainless eyelets, 490g, £26), 23mm wide.

and the Papillon (Double wall. polished alu, stainless eyelets, 495g, £40), 23mm wide.

Re: 650b rims

Thanks for replies guys.

I had ordered a set of the Grand Bois rims from Japan, but they are not available until mid-December. I will cancel the order if Graham's contact comes up with the Mavics though! :D

Cheers,
Andrew
