Slow slow restoration of a JRJ track frame is in process. It`s going to end up as my son`s bike - he is a pretty powerful rider & I need something for his wheels which will be suitably styled for the age of the frame but also suitable for serious riding. I`m OK for hubs, what might be best for the rims - would consider tubs or clinchers - what do you suggest?
I`m a bit concerned about using something 50yrs old for serious riding with 14 stone on it ........
Thanks for any opinions!

Agree with the suggestion, Fiamme road rims (14 ounce) were widely used 1950's and 1960's, I used to buy crate lots.
Used a dab of clear varnish on the spoke nipples after building, stopped them shaking loose, and sealed them from water.
Mavics of the time were 11 ounce, a bit wider, and equally strong. I think SSC were a bit later.
Also Super Champion 10 ounce were strong enough. Wired on 27 x 1 1/4 inch rims of the time were pretty weak in comparison.
