Yep, that sounds exactly like my father. The most memorable careers advice he offered was when I was in my early 20s: "Why don't you join the Army? You'll get a good pension." How's that for ambition? :roll:Supratada":3g7c6mli said:My parents were the opposite, they actively tried to dissuade me from going into higher education and the general message was "You're not supposed to be happy, you just need to have a job, any job".
1duck, I don't know anything about your CV, but it seems that "work placements" are very much in fashion at the moment; you work for an employer for a couple of weeks without pay.1duck":3g7c6mli said:being sat on the dole i can say, you are very much living the dream...i'd kill for a minimum wage job, any job, but the interview people take one look at my cv and assume i'm taking the piss...they just don't seem to understand how the economy is right now.
They get a no-risk chance to see if you're what they're looking for (which is a much more reliable indication to them than a 15 minute interview) and if you're a good worker you get a better chance of being offered a job. If they don't hire you, you've still got some work experience to put on your CV that's very fresh and which also shows that you're trying hard to find employment.
I know that Morrison's (supermarket chain) offer work placements, but I'm not sure who else does... :?
