34.9 mm XTR M900 front mech

Is it possible to use a shim on a 34.9mm XTR M900 front mech to fit a 31.8 seat tube? thanks.

Yes, I used a shim with a XTR M900 on my Trek Y-50. There were no problems.

I've seen some at chainreaction cycles.

I had one on my old XT front mech on a Marin frame, it was a newer XT but can't see why it would not work, although the M900 is such a lovely looking piece of kit that I wouldn't want to ruin the aesthetics.

I've made 'em before out of bendy plastic. Find some that's around 2mm thick (it'll seem a tiny bit too thick but if it's soft enough to bend, it'll 'squish' a little as you tighten up the mech band.) Mark the plastic to follow the lines of the mech band, undo the mech, trim the plastic and hey presto, you have a nice, neat shimmed mech.

good idea. I'm pretty sure I've kept various shims that come with things like lock brackets and the crud guard that goes on the seat post etc etc. Prob have loads, just never really thought about it.

Just don't do that on a thin alu frame! SJS cycles do a great range of them.
