2x7 Flat Bar Shifters Recomendation - Thumbies Rapid Fire?

Hi,

I've got a friend who has a retro Dawes Galaxy running 2x7 shimano friction downtube lever set up - no indexing on either.
He would like to update it and run flat bar shifters - rapid fire or maybe thumb shifters

What do you guys recommend?

Does a left hand 3 speed indexed shifter work with a double front?(and there is a ghost gear)

It will remain 2 x 7 - no plan to go to 8 or more.

Thanks

Joe

I like these. Have 'em on several bikes. Were about €30 for a complete set, including the cables and housing. Limit the travel of the FD to two rings using the FD limit screws. Worked for me.

Make sure you get a version that works with your brakes. Some are dual mode, i.e. adjustable for use with either V-brakes or "old" side-pull/center-pull/cantilever brakes.

Thanks for that, I couldn't quite tell from the photo - you running 2 speed front chainring?

You say the shifter has 3 clicks but it just uses 2 of them for two gears?

On that bike it may have been a triple, but I have them on a couple of other bikes as well, with a double plateau. Third position is locked out by the limit screw on the front derailleur.

Here's one:
