Hey all,

Am I kidding my self that a 26.8 - 27.2 seatpost shim even exists? I bet you're all going to tell me to use a beer can, any one ever tried this?

Oh, and another thing. What size seatpost collar should fit with a 27.2 seatpost, does it need to be a tad larger than the post to accomodate the frame?

Cheers troops

I don't know of one. Shims are usually intended to go from a common smaller size to a rarer large one. Most people in your situation would just buy a common 27.2mm post.

On a hack bike, yes many times. A couple of wraps of beer can should do the trick. On anything I valued I'd spend the money on the right size post.

Depends on the frame. A Cannondale will want a 31.8, some steel Konas want a 30.0, some other steel frames use 28.6mm. It basically needs to be a good fit to the top of the seat tube. It's often, but not always, the same size as your front derailleur clamp.

I'm using coke can on my bike atm for this purpose, but it is not ideal.

Roll it into a cone form and insert the tip into the tube and the seatpost into the wider end to aid insertion.
