Long story but I’m now looking to sell 2 GTs that now aren’t fitting in with my plans…
First up is my Borrego. The original build thread is here;
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=202261&hilit=borrego
I was selling the frameset but have now turned it into a rolling frameset after sifting through the loft so Included in the sale;
- 18" GT Borrego frame
- GT ahead forks
- GT ahead stem
- Aheadset
- Square taper BB, virtually new with a long axle.
- Zoom bars
- Onza stubby bar ends
- Shim to take an original USE seatpost
- 7 speed wheelset with Exage hubs, Rigida rims and original Farmer John Nephew tyres. The wheels are pretty good, hubs need a service and the spokes need a bit more tension but the braking surfaces are sound, they’ve been in storage for about 15 years
I’m looking for £70 collected from Staffordshire
For an extra £30 I’ll include a pair of good XT mechs as shown in the last picture
Secondly is my ’98 Bravado
Slightly too new for this section of the forum, but I reckon it’s got more appeal here than the post-98 section
I bought this complete recently with the plan to fix it up enough to ride through the Summer and then (if I liked riding it) strip it over the winter and do a full restoration but I’m now having second thoughts and think I’ll start searching for something different to the GT flavour of my recent bikes.
It’s an 18” frame and has plenty of battle scars but is overall sound. There are a couple of small dings but nothing major, no deep rust and all the threads are fine. I’ve partially stripped the bike and cleaned the components up.
Spec as follows;
-Manitou SX forks. They work fine but there is missing paint and the top caps are chewed but functional
-Wheels are Mavic XM221 rims (black) on GT oversize front hub and LX 8 speed rear
Tyres are a pair of more recent Bontrager Jones which I’ve fitted
-XT front and rear mechs. Front seems to be original spec, rear is a very tidy catalogue correct one I’ve fitted
-XT brakes lever / STIs (original fit)
-XT rear V Brake (original fit)
-Deore front V Brake
-LX chainset (original fit), I've started to polish them and they are dandy, a bit more work would have them brought up superbly!
-Bottom bracket has been taken out, checked and refitted and is sound
-Nice condition 8speed XT cassette
-Sram chain
-Cane Creek aheadset, again removed and refitted.
-Unbranded stem (oversized)
-Specialized riser bars
-Selle Italia saddle
-Original GT seatpost, was scruffy but now matt finish (I was part way through polishing it)
It’s a nice bike for someone who wants a project or is happy to ride a ‘well loved’ looking bike. The part 631 frame has some really nice touches including very tidy looking dropouts.
It’ll be a shame to see it go but I need to accept that my heart lies in a Kona (or Buckshaver) and I’m going to gear up for something like that.
Given what I paid for the frame and the bits I’ve swapped so far I’m looking for £130 collected.
I’m in Staffordshire and am not in any position to post either bike at the moment to UK or abroad.
