1998 Saracen Max Trax

Picked up this crazy but very original looking orange beast for £20 from Gumtree. £599 new in 1998 according to the brochure I found linked to on here!

Seems to be in good condition, although I must admit to knowing very little about this sort of thing!

Pretty original too I'd guess...

Really just picked it up to use with my 9yr old son after we revived a Raleigh Arena and Elswick Supersprint racers. The Arena is still a bit big for him, so I'll use this to partner up with him on the Ridgeback MX24 he bought himself after Xmas.
Really I guess for a bit of fitness for me and some quality father and son time for us!

Re:

Looks cool buddy, can't beat finding a minta for beer money!!! The shifters look more newer than spec but as long they work, all's good in the woodz

Cheers! It's certainly a bit crowded on those handlebars. Doesn't seem to be a lot of info about these out there - although I saw the thread here from the guy who built one up from the frame. Front suspension on that one though...
I do like something a bit out of the ordinary though - and as you say, for beer money it had to be worth a punt. The short ride I managed earlier suggests it's all working, so I'll clean it up a bit more, see how it goes and what more I can find out about it.

Re:

So it looks like it's mostly original - even down to the rear tyre!

The shifters have been replaced right enough, but even the saddle looks to be 'factory'. Guess I need to decide whether to go on a quest to find some 'Shimano STX RC rapidfire SL trigger shifters with selector indicators' or go for a Doctorstewie inspired updated look and front shocks....
