This is the x-th incarnation of my "owned from new" 1997 Santa Cruz Heckler, a retro re-build. A project that was simmering in the back of my mind ever since joining Retrobike, but never really happened, until now that is. Here it is for the first time in a ride-able state, not finished yet, but well used and ready for more:
This build is in line with the original build: red & black, silver & gold, though the original bike was SC trans red matching the red ano parts better. Aim is to produce a decent ride too, it will be a rider. Quite a few of the parts have been on the bike since new and I love them: the USE post, ESP gears, Hola brakes, HO pedals and the wheels. And the headset is the only one ever fitted. But other parts I have upgraded in keeping with the original style.
I'm not 100% convinced about all of it, and the close ups reveal some niggles too. So I will probably tinker a bit with it in the next few weeks. E.g. I also still have the RC36 from the first build. I went with the Zocchi forks, they are what I rode 2000-2004 and the polished alloy balances the swingarm. Choices choices, below are some more pictures for you.
Enjoy!!
Rebuilt Onza HOLA brakes rode them 1997 until 2004 when I went disc
Ritchey WCS hubs, Sun rims and revolution spokes, light as sin,
Fav Onza CWA bar-ends, 1997 ESP still accurate
White Ind cranks and ring as in the 1997 brochure
One more side-on
