1996 Kilauea

I've never seen a silver one before, although I'd heard of them. It seems as though lots of the 96 Kona range was reissued in different colours from the catalogue part-way through the model year.

Sounds like a very good original example, but even so his BIN price is optimistic.

NB Size 19, not 17 as stated.

" It is the original paint job just didn't like the white version. "

The guy is a nutter!!

If only he had bought the white one....loads on here would have ripped his arm off for it

It's a strange mixture actually - the decals are 96, the Project 2s are 96, the spiral is a 96, but the blue seat tube sticker looks like the Tange Prestige Concept sticker and the tubes vaguely look tapered and ovalised (the 96 frame was made of round Columbus Cyber) and the kit is right for 1995 (including the titanium handlebar). Maybe a transitional model between the 95 and 96 model years.

I agree with him actually, I know a lot of people like the white ones, but I prefer that colour scheme.

If the colour is original, I'd say it's more likely to be a 1994 model. The 96 was a different colour again. Can't explain the decals though...

Edit: he now claims it's a 95 in alternate colour. Which still leaves the decal issue. :? I had no idea there was an alternate colour in 95, never heard of it before.

I will watch this with interest...

I think you can just make out the characteristic Tange bulge at the bottom of the seat tube too. A Cyber frame, having no bulge, would be more likely to have a top-swing front mech.

I don't know about that...decals are 96 but the tubeset looks VERY similar to my 95...

I agree, I'm sure it's a 95 frame with 95 kit on it. And I expect Konamad may well be right that it was bought late in 95, although the seller says he bought it in preference to a standard white 95 Kilauea, not the standard blue 96.

I wonder whether they had some spare 95 Tange Prestige frames at the end of the year and painted/stickered them for the 96 season. Worse things have happened. Seems like a nice bike anyway, and quite rare I guess.
