I wondered as well whether this was 18" as opposed to 19"
Rates very high on the HFM scale.

Kona Explosif 1996

Hi all, i'm new on here. I joined some time ago, been busy moving etc. I have a question, is this a realistic price for an Explosif or as 1st post says 'ambitious'? The reason i ask is i have a couple, I new they were quite collectable now, just not sure, if this is a possible sale price i may have to start thinking of parting with my babies.

By the way what's the HFM scale, i probably should know this.
Cheers in advance.

I assumed it meant how freaking much - if there is another variant, so be it.

Pricing can vary quite a bit for explosifs depending on age, condition and spec of parts attached.

For reasons not explained, the one under discussion here has a number of downgrades - brakes, mechs & cranks down to LX, though of the right vintage, not sure where the forks came from (2000's ish) etc.

For a reasonable assessment try "what's it worth thread" here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29681&start=2235

Post a couple of pictures here and you should get some replies that give you an idea.

with the down graded spec it's only 'worth' around £300 - £350 in my opinion as you'd be looking at pending the other £300 bringing it back to it's former glory!
The seller had picked up a frame and just thrown the other parts on, that's the only reason I can think of for the down grade. Even the forks aren't right

Thanks Guys, i will post pics as soon as i can. Keep your eyes peeled, one is thoroughly used and has had various mods over the years (currently being used by Son at Uni) I will be swapping it over at half term for a R/hopper, he don't care. The other is completely Kona standard, apart from some shimano DX pedals that I put on it once. Still got the original unused wellgo ones somewhere.
