1996 Barracuda A2V - Tange Prestige - Complete Bike

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's anything more than "Tange Prestige". I'm not the best one to speak to about metals, and whether the "Superlight" or "Ultimate" is just implied, or a specific model of the "Prestige" line..

The 95 is tange prestige ultimate superlight. Superlight, ultrastrong etc are different specifications, butts and ovalisations of prestige ultimate. Like on an explosif the downtube might be ultrastrong and the seattube superlight etc because they mixed different tubesets. Not totally sure on the diff between prestige and prestige ultimate, I think it it's a different steel grade, according to the second page below.

See, looking at the decals on that page shows the word "Superlight" in large font. In the bike mentioned in this thread above, it's just the "Prestige" in large font. This is why I thought that it wasn't a "Superlight" or "Ultimate"..

Use the link that's been posted, and before going further, notice there are many pages to choose. It's in page 3 and beyond, that the decals are shown.

You talked in another thread about the diff between durango and ross built, could you expand on that at all?

Yep.

Barracuda came onto the scene in 92/93 and hand built their bikes in Durango, CO. Poor business management resulted in their sale of the company in 1995/96 to Ross Bycicles.

Frames made 1995 and prior, were all Durango built frames. Frames 1996 and after, were made by Ross. I'm pretty sure Ross farmed out frame building to a Taiwanese firm.

Now, geometery stayed the same, as did materials for the most part, so these are still great bikes. But for a true fanatic, you'd want to get your hands on a 1995 or earlier if you can.
