New (to me) bike for general riding around town, a '95 Fire mountain picked up from another Retro bike member, it replaced the Shogun Trailbreaker I' d been using - - - >http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... lit=Shogun.

The Fire Mountain is anicer bike to ride, more refined and a few pounds lighter too, a step up spec wise too as it has STX/Acera-X drive train.
When I picked it up it was in good shape, mismatched tyres, slick rear and knobbly front, and the front brake had been replaced with a v-brake, overall condition was good though, and it was all working as it should...

First thing I did was replace the mismatched brakes with some old Magura Hydrostops I had in my spares box, absolutely indestructible brakes and once set up virtually maintenance free, and they stop the bike dead :)
I fitted some cheap Kenda tanwall semi-slick tyres and the usual mudguards, lights, lock etc for a bike that'll be used around the city.

I'll kind of miss the Shogun, but the Fire Mountain is altogether a nicer bike, and now it's been "commuter-ised" it still (hopefully) doesn't attract much attention.

Nice looking bike and very functional. What mudguards? Need to get some for my Ezulie to keep the mud and cow crap of my clothing during shopping trips.

Re:

They're SKS Commuter guards I think, had them a couple of years.
Not pretty, but very practical.

A lovely understated bike that. Some how you managed to make a bike full of practical stuff, still look great.
