1994 Kona Lava Dome Custom Build

Now the build is nearly complete I thought I would share some photos from throughout the build. This has been gradually going on in the background at a very slow pace. The whole build started with the wheels, I was very kindly given a set of shimano M959 wheels:

I decided they were too nice to put on any of my current bikes so held onto them until I got a suitable bike. Next I got a pair of Pace RC38 forks to go with the wheels, still no idea what bike they were going on. Whilst I was searching for a frame to build up a friend offered me a Kona lava dome, the rear triangle was out of alignment so the wheel rubbed on the chainstay. Straightening it out didn't take long.

Once the frame was straightened the next issue was the wheels are disc only, so are the RC38 forks, once I stripped the paint from the frame a friend brazed some disc tabs onto the rear triangle for me (did a very nice job of it as well).

(No turning back now)

(Finished disc tabs)

Once the frame was ready I got it powder coated by another friend, I went for chrome powder coat so it was a bit different.

I then put on the decals I ordered from Gil, and a steel yorkshire rose headtube badge I got from PlanetX.

YORKSHIRE!

The rest of the bits were mainly things I had lying around the garage, I got fed up of looking at the frame and wanted to get it ready to ride. Some parts will still be upgraded over time, but as it stands once the gears are indexed and some pedals attached it's ready to ride.

Looks well Luke mats done a good job of that rear disc mount.

He has done a great job. Took it for a test ride round sherwood pines today, lovely to ride.
