1994 Kona Explosif

Just got this baby to my stable, a 1994 Kona Explosif just a great ride and it just weights 10,4 kg with paddles.

I am thinking off buying new wheels and then change to 9 speed XTR or XT.

Anyway the very first change I am going to do is to get a rigid fork.

Do any one knows if the 94 Explosif has a 1.1/8 headset?

That's a pretty bike you got there, and I believe the head tube is 1". Rigid forks would look great I think, I would also swap out the riser bars for flat ones. Best of luck with it!

Thanks,

I think I am going for this fork Nuke Proof Carbon?

and yes I will get a flat bar. I do have a 99 Explosif but that is a Ricthey. So I a hope to get a Kona Race Light, just lost one at an eBay action!

Also planning to repaint the bike if I can get the color code, any who can help me out with that?

Those forks are 3.5cm too long, which would have a seriously bad effect on the handling. You may not find a modern fork as short as 41cm a-c, but I should have thought you could get closer than that. It will handle best with a Project 2 or a suspension fork though.

Colour codes for retro Konas are lost, nobody knows them, not even Kona.

I bought a triple butted P2 on Ebay (Bikeman), which, while being modern, gives IMO a pretty spot on handling for my Kona. The axel to crown lenght is 410, and it's cantilever/V-brake only. Recommended. :)

Cheers
