1994 GT Zaskar LE For Sale (Sheffield)

Big_I

Retro Newbie
Hi All,

I have decided to sell my faithful stead as it has been languishing in my garage now for quite some time, I had intended to make it into a single speed whippet but never got round to it, not having the time or motivation to do that. I have had the bike since 95/96 and it has always brought a smile to my face.

It is a 94 (I think that's what the serial implies) Ball Burnished frame, that is need of some TLC, it is ready for a service for sure (cables, chain, rings, etc). It is not a mint bike, it has scratches and a dent in the down tube which was caused by the bike trying to kill me  but I think that it will make a great retro ride when full up and running again.

1994 Ball Burnished Frame (Large, it has an 18 stamped on it, not actually sure what that relates to)
FSA Headset
XT front and rear mechs
XT V Brakes and levers
ACOR short stem
Rock Shox Judy Race forks
Riser bars (possibly club roost but I really cant remember as it was such a long time ago)
Middleburn RST cranks with PACE rings but they need replacing really.
Shimano DX pedals
Front wheel - GT hub with Mavic 217 SUP rim
Rear wheel - Parallax STX special edition hub with Mavic 121 SUP rim
Nokian Fat Hakka tyres
Unknown seat post and seat

£300 I am based in Sheffield and the buyer will need to collect ideally but I would be prepared to meet for the cost of fuel.

Re:

- Bump -

Plenty of people looking but little interest. Is this priced too high? It felt like the right price based on individual components that I've seen for sale on here and elsewhere.
Cheers

Re:

Typically, a complete bike will fetch less than the sum of its parts. You might do better to look up prices of complete bikes. Or, if you can be bothered, split the bike and sell the components individually.

Just my opinion and good luck with your sale.

Re:

Hi Twister,

Thanks for your input there, I did look up the prices of complete bikes and as you can imagine they vary greatly and there hadn't been any Zaskars for sale recently on here (some nice build threads though); I thought I had priced it to be less than the sum of its parts anyway, but maybe splitting it is the way to go.

Re:

The problem is that people on here are very purist when it comes to retro mtb's and your gt has a mixed bag of components from different eras. Probably it would only be the frame and crank that's of much interest so if someone pays 300 for the whole bike they would then have to spend another couple hundred rebuilding it, so If you were to drop the price down to 200 then it may become more worth while for someone. Either that or split it for parts like previously mentioned, you would get about a oner for the frame and the parts would reach over 200. The only problem with that is you will probably have left over a couple bits and pieces that don't sale.

Why don't u offer it for £250 including the cost of UK postage and see how you get on?

Hi Sean,

Thanks for your input, I hadn't considered the purist element and the mixed era parts although most are pre-2000 I think, having looked at your build threads I can see you're in the purist camp with some really nice bikes. I will have a look at splitting the bike then or reducing the price, out of interest has anybody tried posting a whole bike and what were the costs like?

Cheers
Ian

Re:

go to your local bike shop and pick up a free box, postage would be about 25-30 quid id imagine. you could even arrange for a courrier to collect it from your house... piece of cake

good luck with the sale :)

Re:

Cost me £13 to send a bike via Yodel. Booked it on parcel2go.com and picked it up next day and buyer had it in 48 hours. Got a box for free from Halfords. Hope this might help with your sale!
