Orange Clockwork 15” – orange to white fade 1992 model

This sale is of my beloved 1992 Clockwork frameset. I have owned this since 1996, when I bought it with a set of Tioga Shockforks! I was going to include the shockforks in the sale but I cannot find them anywhere. So included will be frame, forks, XT bottom bracket, STX headset and Madison seatpost (original). The B/B and headset seem fine (although the headset seat is not properly pushed down on the forks) but I won’t guarantee them due to age.

The frame is a real classic for the smaller person! I think 15” was the smallest frame Orange did so I believe it to be that, although it is even smaller! I measure 12 ½” centre B/B to centre T/T, or 14” to the top of the seatpost. As such it is a frame for someone between 4ft 6” to 5ft 8” approx. I was about 5ft 1” when I got it and used it for about 3 years, until I was 5ft 8”. At this point I ran out of seatpost and it became a little short in length. I suppose with a longer post and stem (I was using 130mm) it could be used by anyone. The handling is fantastic, so agile and easy to manoeuvre under you, with a real spring to its ride. It features Tange Infinity tubing with the classic wishbone seatstays and a full complement of pannier lugs. It also has cablestops suitable for V-brakes and the usual 1” headset. Serial number is M3020434.

The paint finish is the classic orange-white fade with orange forks. This bike is totally original and unmolested, and is in fine condition for a 16 year old off-road machine. It is not perfect, but in my opinion it would be criminal to respray such an original frame. The main areas of damage to the finish are on the rear triangle – there are some small chips peppered on the seatstays and the cable stops, and the drive side chainstay has chips inside and out. The headtube has some cable rub, and there are other small chips around the frame. The drive side top tuble also has light scratching where the cables run alongside it. The decals are near perfect on the kerbside, but are worse on the drive side. The cables have removed most of the ‘clockwork’ and there is some orange missing from the G in the Orange logo. The headtube logo shows cable rub, but the fork logos are perfect. If this sounds like a lot it is because I am being really explicit. The bike is in great condition (one of the best I have seen) but has been used, and as the paint finish is quite fragile these things happen. Is has never been bent or crashed (well, some minor spills!) and is a very cool, fine original retro frame. The photos show the condition to be really good, but if you are after an *unused* museum piece this is not it! Maybe you could replace the decals on the drive side, possible paint the rear triangle but in all honesty it looks great as it is. I took it to a bike shop to get the cranks removed (Middleburn RS1 with Pace rings and Ti bolts!) and everyone in the shop stopped to come and look at it…

I am looking for £120. Happy to post at cost (what is the best way to package bikes for postage?). Bike based in Edinburgh at the moment, but I will be taking it with me to North London N16 on Monday so collection from there will be fine. I have more photos I can email, but the PC won’t upload any more to Imageshack to display here. Please email me at s0129724 @sms.ed.ac.uk (remove space) or PM for more info.

Kind regards,

James Corcoran.

EDIT: Re-reading it was maybe not clear but these are the original steel forks that came with the bike. Last chance before the dreaded EBAY! Bike now based in North London, not far from 'Cycle Care', High Wycombe from whence it once came.
