1992 Cro-Mega DX in Aberdeen. Turquoise.

This has just come into my possession and I'm not totally sure of it's history but I'm fairly certain it has been in a loft for many years.

If anyone in Aberdeen has ever in the past had one of these nicked (or sold it and regretted it) and never got it back please let me know and I'll happily reunite them with their long-lost bike. Just pm me with identifying details. It has some unusual very old kit on it and obviously once belonged to an enthusiast. It appears to have been sold after the turquoise paint job by Alpine Bikes sometime before 1995 as the professionally applied Alpine bikes stickers have the old pre 01 phone number on them.

I'm thinking of turning it into a retro-themed fat (-ish) bike as it has enormous tyre clearance and the famous curved seat tube. I have a few period parts that have been waiting for a suitable mount!

Will someone please tell me where to find the serial number on these bikes?

Are you sure about clearance?

I had to run onza porcupine tyres on them as they had straight profile, as clearance on my 1001 cro mega was really poor.

yes, clearance is huge on a 1992 model. I think the design is a bit different. Unless it isn't what I think it is! I checked the archived catalogues.

Fair enough!

Mine was the 1991 white with grey front. Might well have changed I dont really know them that well to be honest.

Get a pic up!

Photos soon. I did a wheel test last night to check for clearance. I can almost get a 29er wheel in! Width clearance is 3.5 inches all the way up front and rear. I could actually get a pair of 27.5 wheels in with 3.0+ wide tyres.

I shall be selling the remains of the DX groupset. It has a nice FD...

Re:

Is it a mount front mech as opposed to a normal band? If so id hold onto it. Hard to come by If you change and want gears up front

It's a mount type. I am planning to run it as a 1x10 so may decide to remove the tab for tyre clearance... sacrilege I know! But I'm getting disc mounts added as well so might as well go for it!
