1992 Cannondale M700 - Monster Cross

Dirt Disciple
I picked up a 1992 Cannondale M700 from local CL. The bike is all original except seat, tires, pedals, and saddle. It was clean on the outside as it was hosed down for the sale, but dirty up close and in need of grease, new cables and complete tuneup. The USA built frame is scratched up and there's some nice wear on the 'recalled' Pepperoni right fork leg but overall the bike is in good condition. I'm going to Monster Cross this one. The complete Force 40 brake parts were also included (wheel reflectors and freehub frisbee too!), but I removed before remembering to get some pics of the bike in 'original purchased' condition.

1992 Cannondale M700 Monster Cross

I've been wanting do drop bar a 26" MTB since 1989 :-) This is my favorite bike to ride right now. You don't have to spend a fortune to join the trendy gravel crowd; just drop your old MTB. Haha - all kidding aside, this bike rides way beyond my expectations and actually handles better with drop bars than it did with flat.

I stripped the bike down and cleaned all the bits; new grease to all surfaces. All the original parts, like the frame, are scratched but all 100% in mechanical working order and have lots of mileage left on them. Here's a parts list of what I added/replaced to add the drop bars.

Nitto 1 1/4" to 1 1/8" threadless column adapter - this is a beautiful part and key for dealing with those odd Fisher Evolution sized 1 1/4" headsets. The Cannondales of this era used them too. Thank gosh they didn't use the press fit Evolution BB from Fisher too!

K-alloy 110 x 35 degree x 1 1/8" threadless

Specialized Henge Sport saddle

Shimano tourney 3 x 7 speed brifters - model ST-A070 - includes new brake and shifter cables and housing

Shimano M520 pedals

CST Camber tires 26 x 2.1 in the rear and 26 x 2.25 in the front

Kona Jake cross handle bars 44cm

Origin8 bar tape

Rear cable stop

Front cable hanger (mounted to original Force40 roller cam mount)
