1991 Trek 830 My First MTB: Reborn at Last

I posted this one a while back on MTBR, but wanted to share with my brothers across the pond too, so....

Back in 1990, I spent every nickel I had on a shiny neon Trek 830...I really wanted the aluminum 6000, or the carbon 8900, but there was no way that was gonna happen.

My $369 investment turned out pretty well though...the bike carried me through a bunch of states, all sorts of punishment, and put a smile on my face during the peak of my early MTB years.

As most things go, it was eventually replaced in the line up, and the bare frame has been hanging in my garage for more than 10 years. After looking at it a while back, I decided it deserved to be put back together, but this time with a bit of flair....

I know some of you guys won't see the point, but it really put a grin on my face to roll it out of the garage this morning.

Hope it brings back some memories for a few of you.

cheers,

Steve

Re:

Thats Nice :D

Totally get why you put it back together and by the look of things spent good iron in process.
May not be from the boutique brand that Trek went on to buy... but who cares I actually prefer it.

Looking at that picture makes me want to sling a leg over it and ride off :D

Re:

I'm always a little envious of anyone who hung on to their bikes for all these years, although to be fair most of mine were stolen or broken :(

I think when it's been yours for all these years you can be excused for doing whatever you want to it, within reason. Nice job :)

Me too! I was always so skint and storeage was so limited that I had to sell one after I bought one. I like it. Glad you are enjoying it.

Re:

I know what you mean - same thing happened to me with my 1992 Diamondback Axis I bought new in Oct 1993. Rode it in my MTB heyday, got replaced, converted to road duty for a few years, then frame hung in the garage for a few years. Decided to restore it a couple years ago & couldn't be happier!
