ok guys need a little help on this bike. i found this tequesta advertised localy description was ( gt bike for sale £20 ) with a real bad pic. the bike was intended for my other half to put a towalong trailer on for our youngest kids. affter arriving to look at the bike and seeing the state of it left out in the back yard and gathering rust along with it being older than i was looking for i was a bit put off to say the least. along side the bike was a carrera subway 2 with odd wheels ( v spec on a disc only bike ) one crank arm missing no gears and no brakes, but it did have a very nice bontrager seat post and i had a wheelset at home so £5 was offered on the carrera for parts only. in my amazement the seller came back with buy the gt for £15 and i will accept £5 for the carrera the cash came out of my wallet so fast it was smoking ( more than the plant he was smoking ) any way guys i didnt know wot the gt was or the age or anything but am now with knowledge so have decided im keeping it and give it some tlc. the help i need is wot to do with it the paint is shot there is rust on the frame so first thing is im going to do is sand blast it but looking for ideas on a colour to have powder coated maybe purple again or silver ?and styling. i want to try and keep it as much the style it is now but more for road use with road tyres. would it look wrong if i changed out the brakes for a set of v brakes ? put some anodised parts on it ? this will be my first retro restore i want to get it right first time any ideas just throw them at me.

Great score on the Tequesta, v's and ano bits would be great.

One word of caution if you are intending to do anything with the Carrera Subway, take out the BB, walk to the nearest recycling bin , drop it in, put a proper one in ! I had mine for 2 weeks before the spindle shattered hurling me over the bars into traffic.

thanks madjez, got some ano purple tranz x bars and ano purple cantilever brakes coming from ebay to start the project and that carrera will be getting a makeover with decent crank set and bb thrown in along with a few bits n pieces changed along the way.

The paint on the Tequesta doesn't look too bad on the pics? Can't it be saved with a load of t-cut and polish?

You can't run V brakes on the rear you will have to stick with the u brake and if you run a V up front you will have to have mismatched brake levers so I would stick with the cantis if I were you.

it looks good in the pics but the paint is shot in places with rust showing through both on the frame and the forks so im going to repaint it or go for the powder coat. i noticed the rear brake set up and agree with you to stick with the canti brakes, ive just won a set of purple anodised canti brakes on ebay and matching bars now i have to figure the colour scheme for the frame. if i paint it myself i can do any colour but im resticted on powder coat but powder is longer lasting and harder waring.

just some of the bad points.
