1991 Bridgestone MB2 Comp

So I'm restarting my build on my 91 Bridgestone MB2 Comp. I was looking for a classic lugged steel fully rigid mountain bike for a dirt drop build and found this one cheap.

Here is a photo of it as I got it many years ago. It had a small ding in the top tube, but I wasn't too worried about that. When i started stripping the paint I noticed that it had a pinhole in the drive side chain stay. That stopped any work on it and its been in the rafters since. I figure its time to either get rid of it or do something with it so I'm finishing the paint removal, will decide what to do about the hole/dings, will rattle can it red or orange and build it up with a bunch of DX parts I have kicking around.

Here is how its looking after sanding with 80 grit and some brass brush work. Close, but still a bit more to go.

Cool project, I’ve got one lugged steel MTB in my stable and very glad to, great looking and riding bike.

I’m curious to see how you solve your chainstay pin hole issue, I’ve got a nice Rocky Mountain steel frame with a similar issue, not sure it’s worth having professionally fixed, wondered if there‘s a DIY solution

I'm thinking of taking it to Toby to see how much it would cost for a proper fix, but I don't think its structural so I think I could just fill the dent with body filler, jb weld, etc. sand and paint over it. Its not a super precious frame at this point. Now if I end up loving it that's a different story. Maybe this?

So here is the paint removal progress so far. You can see a close up of the ding with the hole as well. I’m liking the bare metal look - heck I may paint it silver.

Looking good 👍

Have you decided on how you will deal with the pin holes?

It does look good silver but I'd still lean more toward a Bridgestone off white color myself, cool to see Suntour drop outs

I found a metallic epoxy putty and am going to try that. I'll try it on the dings in the top tube as well.

I like those Suntour drop outs too - nice and clean looking. I didn't know Suntour did dropouts BITD.
