1990 Zolatone Pine Mountain Restoration - which chainset?

Foulplay

Devout Dirtbag
Hi folks,

I'm in the process of restoring my 1990 Marin Pine Mountain and will be looking to source NOS or excellent condition used chainset parts... The trouble is, apart from knowing it's a 46/36/24t front, and 7speed rear I don't know the actual Shimano part codes.

Pretty sure they wouldn't have been biopace (they look round and not oval), but can anyone tell me exactly parts I should be searching for, please?

Appreciate any assistance.

Cheers,

Lee.

It may help, if I can trust that the 1991 spec was the same as the 1990, as those catalogs start at '91.
It does tell me the '91 rear cassette is the Hyperglide, and I'm pretty sure that's what I have, but it doesn't say anything about the front rings, other than that they are Deore DX 46/36/24. Is that all I need to find the right part? Or was there more than one Deore spec on the chainrings?

Cheers.

My guess is MT60.. that was the DX of that era.

Cheers Rich... It does say FC-MT60 on the crank.

Is that the chainset part number, then?

Don't suppose Shimano still make that chainset, do they? Or a direct replacement, perhaps?

Yes that's the part number but they stopped making them in '93 but they do come up for sale regularly on here and on eBay in fact there are 5 sets on ebay at the moment. But unless yours are totally trashed you could probably refurb yours with a bit of time and elbow grease and Autosol 8)

Yeah, that's my first course of action, to clean the original rings right up. The only problem is, the teeth are fairly worn down in places, and I would have liked to replace the chain with a gleaming new one, too, which might cause a problem on worn teeth.

Cheers for the advice. Much appreciated.
