Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of reviving a Tange steel 1990 Mongoose Sycamore with a 4130 Chromo fork to a restomod single speed machine. Purchase the frame and fork for $55AUD then made the decision between 1 x 8 transmission vs SS, SS has own for now. Build will be on the budget side as it will be used as a sometimes trail bike and mainly pathway bike.

Also I can't see the difference between the lower spec IBOC frames and the Sycamore of the era, different tubing?

Here are some pictures;

The frame has a few paints chips which had some surface rust, removed the rust and have hand painted some two pac epoxy on there. I will wet and dry then touch up with spray paint.

So far the parts list (some taken from a parted out bike) is a mixture of retro gear and modern gear;

- M900 XTR Crankset
- BB UN90
- Wheelset Araya RM 400 Pro Front Rim laced to XTR M900 Hub, Rear Rim is Ritchey laced to XTR M900 Hub, Sapim spokes on both
- New Ritchey logic threaded headset
- New Avid Speed Dial 7 V brake levers
- New Avid Single Digit 5 V Brakes
- New Seat Post non branded
- Early Selle Flite saddle
- New Quill Adapter
- New Raceface XC stem
- New FSA white flat XC handlebar
- New Stronglight 34T chainring
- New Gusset 17T rear cog
- New Shimano SLX 9 Speed Chain
- Gusset Tensioner, SS spacers (parts draw)
- New Kore blue brake outers and cables

Few parts might be upgraded in the future most likely the saddle, and the tyres to some new skin wall. Besides that just waiting on the order from CRC to finish the build.

Re:

I did think about using the M900 groupset off the Shogun, but opted for a single speed as I already have a Trek Top Fuel ex 8 1 x 10 drivetrain, and a Cannondale 29er.

I wanted a SS bike, also wanted a steel bike. Depending on how the frame rides might switch the SS build to the Shogun Prairie Breaker Team those pot riveted cable guides have grow in me.
