1989 Univega Alpina Pro, Tange Prestige, Spinner Fork

Thats a pity about the damage, the finish is lovely.

I know, but it did clean up better than I expected. It had a complete 1989 Shimano Deore II group, barely a mark on the components, but some very light oxidation on all of it-the hubs are laced to black Araya RM-20's in mint condition. I think I can spend a bit of time polishing and it will buff out.

just got done building this. thanks, btw, that was a sweet deal (though i totally spaced on the fork- ended up buying a nos raliegh for it). will try to get some pictures up soon. 1x8, cantis, old lx shifter and derailleur. sweet riding bike, may become my new daily driver.

I can't wait to see it, thanks very much for posting. If it makes you feel any better, the fork is being used on a Fat Chance of some sort, so at least it's not for a Huffy. I did hate to split them.

Glad you liked it, and have fun.

so here it is, as of right now. this is a result of impatience and a budget- would have liked to get more period correct stuff, but i wanted it done too... built this largely from stuff found at our local yellow bike and a couple of swap meets.

deore lx 8 sp. rear d and shifter (not quite period correct, but pretty close)
mavic 521 on an xtr rear
mavic 221 on a white ind. front
deore cantis
"new" avocet fork
origin-8 propulsion track cranks w/36 t ring
oury's for the comfort
cheapo knock-off spds

the thing rides like a dream, the only weirdness at this point is the snap link on the sram chain catches on the bottom pulley just a little bit- doesn't seem to affect anything other than my eardrum hearing that click each time. otherwise, i seemed to have gotten lucky just slapping something together. cross chaining could probably be a little bit better, but it's not bad, considering...

Yes! Thanks for posting, it looks fantastic. I build stuff the same way-whatever I have lying around first, then add better/different bits as they come along. I'm glad you are enjoying it and it fit your budget. Sweet! :D
