Seeing the latest 1988 BOTM has giving me some motivation to finish the spring clean of my Bear Valley.
All the frame and forks has been cleaned and polished and the black paint has a lovely shine to it,headset and BB have been cleaned and regreased.
Next stage is to clean all the MT60 Deore parts and the Deore wheelset.
For the wheels i was thinking of swapping the solid axle on the rear for a quick release axle. Is it as straight forward as just swapping the axle and that's it or is there other things to do?
Photos are crappy coz it's late 😁

Nice. I do like the late eighties pre zolatone Marins. And MT-60 Deore always looks great too.

Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.

Oh and to answer your axle query.
Yes it's pretty much a straight swap if you can get your hands on a ~140mm axle for 130 OLD or ~145mm axle for 135mm OLD.

It should look good when it's all finished when everything is all shiny again, just done a couple of parts.
I thought the axle would be straight forward with them being the same hubs.

That's the brake levers and thumbshifters all cleaned and polished. Still got some sun out so wheeled it out to see how it's looking so far.
I'm happy with the frame and forks which have cleaned up nicely just need to touch up around the top of the seatstays.
You can see the wheels need a really good clean and polish up but i'm sure they'll come up gleaming again with some elbow grease.
So far so good, now to the other parts.

Well that's the hard part all done getting all the parts nice and shiny again, now to get it all cabled up and rideable.
