1983 Ritchey Everest

Until I found this website I didn't realize that I own a couple of bikes that would win any MTB concours.

The first of these would be Breezer #2, built for me by Joe Breeze in 1978. It currently resides in the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in Crested Butte, Colorado, and I haven't actually seen it in several years. This is the second one of only ten built and is very likely the most collectible bicycle in the entire world. Before I sent it to the Hall of Fame, Joe detailed it into completely original condition.

The second is my 1983 Ritchey Everest, the top of the line Ritchey bike from that year, probably the nicest MTB that you could buy for any price in 1983. This one was custom-built specifically for me during the time when Tom still built all Ritchey bikes. It has hand-made Ritchey "Bullmoose" handlebars and custom braze-ons for touring gear. It still has the original Imron paint job and decals. When I got it from Tom, he had painted my name on it, but some of that paint has worn off.

The Everest is lugless brazed, but features fake "lugs". The handlebar plug is a custom turned piece of lignum vitae, the hardest wood in the world. All equipment is original, the gruppo is Deore XT.

The frame has been hanging on my wall for years now, sans wheels, but inspired by this website I intend to assemble it and clean it up, then submit a photo. If it doesn't get the Bike of the Month, you should retire the category.

Cool

I think either would win Bike Of The Month with ease. Looking forward to seeing pictures of both. The Ritchey sounds like a fine piece of wall art !
