Evening all.
Rescued this morning from a fate worse than recycling, a complete - and I assume original - Raleigh 'roadster'.
Could really do with some help dating it, as so far it could be anywhere between 1950 and 1980...
The bottom bracket's stamped 1710926
The seatpost lug's also stamped 99130 DJ
So far, could be (seatpost stamp) 'Convention #2' - so possibly 1948 through the '50's.
Or possibly (BB stamp) '63 - '69
Both of these I looked up at the excellent http://www.kurtkaminer.com/TH_raleigh_s ... ml#mid60bb).
The bike looks like it might have had new(!) downtube decals applied ages ago, they're not so straight, look too small to me, and run over the (really nice) red lining.
The chain guard also looks a big, well, wrong, really. I spotted some for sale that were labelled 1970's. As it's the only thing that's different from all the pics on the web of roadsters, I thought it might be a clue. But I suspect it's a red herring. Could a bike shop have made some upgrades in the late '60's to shift this?
Would welcome any comments before the restoration starts...
