In the 1950s most Hetchins were supplied as frame only in UK. We had a purchase tax around 20% on complete bikes but not on parts. Most club type cyclists improved their bikes over years, the old parts being relegated to winter or commuting bikes.
I sold a few Hetchins in the mid 50s.
